Our Philosophy:
"Small is Beautiful"
DSA takes pride in its small-firm efficiency. The office is led by a single architect who works directly with the client through all phases of their project to achieve their design goals. To maximize efficiency, project consultants such as engineers and interior designers are engaged on an as-needed basis. Project expenses are reduced as DSA invites clients to contract directly with the consultants at-cost.
Beyond "Blueprints":
A Digital Design Experience
Gone are the days of cumbersome and costly exchanges of hardcopy drawings. Today’s digital media and communications allow for DSA to develop and communicate design solutions at unprecedented speed. This facilitates rapid response times for a fluid, dynamic and effective exchange of ideas between the Client, Architect and project consultants.
Blending Tradition with Modernity
While we pride ourselves on modern, sustainable design, we also believe in the importance of harmonizing new structures with their historical and cultural contexts. DSA’s approach to the Birdrock Addition and Remodel project beautifully demonstrates how traditional design can mesh with modern needs in historic neighborhoods. Focusing on a 1940s bungalow, the remodel adds 2000 square feet while keeping the exterior aligned with the area’s charm.
The interior spaces were consciously designed to be personal and intimate, utilizing a relaxed Eastern Seaboard style to craft an inviting atmosphere. Key additions include a spacious kitchen with a vaulted dining nook, family room, master suite, and guest room, all fitting seamlessly into the property’s original footprint.
The project extended towards the rear, where the existing detached garage was reconfigured for improved vehicular access and enhanced with new guest quarters above. The homeowner’s preference for steep roofs was also incorporated, introducing vaulted ceilings across the renovation. This feature added to the aesthetic appeal and innovatively created space for a hidden playroom above the kitchen.
Diverse Projects, Universal Standards
DSA is committed to designing spaces that cater to all budgets and lifestyles. Our portfolio includes everything from luxurious single-family homes to innovative, sustainable multi-family housing.

"Spaces that fit"

DSA specializes in creating comfortable spaces that fit your needs and lifestyle. The Bird Rock Addition & Remodel is a complete rebuild of a 1940’s bungalow which added about 2000 square feet to the property while preserving the unassuming scale of the house exterior. A restrained handling of the interior fostered spaces that were personal and intimate in scale.
With a loose interpretation of casual Eastern Seaboard style, the project stretched across it’s deep and narrow lot to include a new expansive kitchen with a vaulted dining nook (shown left), a new family room, master suite and guest room. At the the alley to the rear of the lot, a detached garage was reoriented for better automobile access while receiving a new upstairs guest quarters.
The owner’s desire for steep roofs led to the inclusion of vaulted ceilings throughout the house and even left enough space for a secret kid’s playroom perched above the kitchen.
"A traditional design approach can bring modern living to older neighborhoods while supporting their unique character."
